Adolescent and Adult Literacy
Adolescent and Adult Literacy raises the bar considerably. Whether a student is preparing for college or career after high school, good communication skills are necessary. I often hear teens claim that mechanics or computer programmers don’t need to know how to write or that engineers don’t read novels and plays. While teachers and counselors are not surprised to hear that their young students have such a narrow view of their futures, teachers continue to introduce all kinds of reading and writing to their students. Today, digital literacy gives students more choices in the medium they would like to receive their literacy experiences.
If you are an adult whose formal education may have been interrupted you need not be embarrassed to call on a literacy coach for assistance. Digital storytelling is an invigorating way to share your stories while learning new skills.
